But for goodness' sake, don't reach for aspartame instead of sugar: It contains an amino acid called phenylalanine, which also has the potential to be a migraine trigger. (I won't even get into the whole aspartame story—let's not go there. Suffice it to say, I don't recommend it even if you don't suffer from headaches.)
