It's really more of a junk science fraud fest designed to prop up the aspartame industry a little longer even as new science keeps coming out showing the chemical sweetener to be potentially quite dangerous to health.
For the Ajinomoto company to fund a review by paying money to an industry-friendly consulting group that coincidentally happens to find aspartame to be perfectly safe strains credibility to such a degree that only a fool would put any weight in this announcement. It's like the R.J. |
| The Ajinomoto company was reportedly not allowed to actually choose which panel members would be part of the aspartame safety review, but industry critics like Michael Jacobson of the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI), responded by saying, "They say Ajinomoto paid for the study but researchers didn't know who paid. Well, they knew it was industry. And some of these people are longstanding industry consultants."
What we have here is a case of yet more pro-aspartame propaganga being paraded around as legitimate science. |
| This conclusion was reached by a panel of industry-friendly "experts" hired by Ajinomoto, who did no new research but, instead, selectively reviewed previous studies on the safety of aspartame (many of which were funded by aspartame manufacturers in the first place).
The panel of experts was called together by the Burdock Group, a consulting firm that earns its money from food and grocery manufacturers like Ajinomoto. |
| The Ajinomoto company, of course, wants to keep the aspartame business going for as long as possible, and that involves campaigns of disinformation like you're reading about here -- hiring "experts" to declare the ridiculous. Remember: No new research has been conducted at all. Instead, this group of experts simply reviewed previous studies, many of which were no doubt distorted and scientifically invalid because they were funded by aspartame in the first place. Looking at bad science a second time does not transform it into good science. |

As reported by the CSPI in a recent press release, According to a 1996 report in the Minneapolis Star Tribune, the FDA rejected repeated proposals by NIEHS to test aspartame using more modern methods than were originally used. David Rall, the former director of NIEHS and its National Toxicology Program, said, "any compound that is that widely used needs to be retested with modern methods every once in a while." The State of California, too, has urged new testing of aspartame. |
| Food and Drug Administration issued a statement flatly denying aspartame poses any safety risk whatsoever, rejecting the idea that its safety or approval as a food ingredient should be reviewed at all. Specifically, FDA spokesperson Michael Herndon said, "...the FDA finds no reason to alter its previous conclusion that aspartame is safe as a general purpose sweetener in food."
In other words, the FDA is not interested in any new science that might challenge a decision it already made. Long live scientific-sounding dogma! |
| I call it a crime against the People of America, because to knowingly allow a dangerous, cancer-causing, nerve-damaging chemical to be used in the national food supply -- even while receiving tens of thousands of health complaints from the people consuming aspartame -- is nothing less than negligent homicide. It's a felony, and those responsible for allowing this poison to contaminate America's food supply are, indeed, unindicted felons who deserve to be arrested and prosecuted for their crimes. |

Let's take a look at these. aspartame is a sweetener that was never proven safe; in fact, the original safety recommendation panel at the FDA recommended that aspartame be denied approval as a safe food ingredient. It was none other than Donald Rumsfeld at the time who helped push aspartame through the FDA to get it legalized as a food additive.
Today, we now see the vast majority of complaints of food side effects sent to the FDA being caused by aspartame. aspartame is an excitotoxin, that is, a neurotoxic chemical, and it breaks down in your body into both formic acid and formaldehyde. |

The fact that no health authority in America is interested in taking a new look at the safety of aspartame is nothing short of astonishing. That is, until you consider the fact that most medical authorities suffer from a severe case of Groupthink and posses no ideas other than the ones spoonfed them by their politically-motivated bosses. It takes real courage to break with the herd and actually state the obvious these days. Most people are satisfied just to go along with whatever the masses say, even if it makes no sense. |
| There is nothing resembling public safety still operating at the Food and Drug Administration anymore.
Add aspartame to the FDA's Hall of Shame, right alongside Vioxx, Rezulin and the ordered destruction of recipe books that dared to mention the stevia herb as an ingredient. It's just one more way in which the FDA continues to betray the American people and subject them to life-threatening ingredients that any honest Food and Drug Administration would have banned long ago. |

Consider some of the biggest food and medicine lies we've seen over the last few years:
Nicotine is not addictive.
Fat-free foods won't make you fat.
Margarine is healthier than butter.
Eggs cause high cholesterol.
Vioxx is perfectly safe.
Monosodium glutamate is safe for infants. |

Also reported by CSPI: Among those who today called on FDA Commissioner Andrew von Eschenbach to review the new aspartame study are former Occupational Safety and Health Administration officials John Froines (now at UCLA) and Peter F. Infante (now at George Washington University); James Huff, current Associate Director for Chemical Carcinogenesis at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS); and Kamal M. Abdo, a toxicologist formerly at the National Toxicology Program of the NIEHS.

Eventually, you're going to produce this necessary pattern of DNA damage to initiate the cancer, and once you develop the cancer, the aspartic acid component of aspartame will make the cancer grow very rapidly. You've got a double effect; it's causing the cancer, and it's making the cancer move very rapidly.
Mike: Given all this evidence, how has the industry managed to suppress this information and keep this chemical legal in the food supply?
Dr. Blaylock: Donald Rumsfeld was the one who pushed a lot of this through, when he was in the chairmanship of the G.D. Searle company, NutraSweet. |

Ban aspartame, water fluoridation and mercury fillings
You probably know the stories on aspartame, fluoride and mercury fillings by now. These are known toxic substances that are not only toxic to the humans who consume them but also to the environment. Mercury fillings, for example, currently release 34 metric tons of toxic mercury into the environment each year. That's about as much as all the coal plants in a sizeable nation, yet the EPA pretends mercury fillings have no environmental impact whatsoever.
Aspartame, too, is a known toxic substance that's well documented as a neurotoxin. |

Here's an off-the-wall question: If MSG and all its different versions, as well as aspartame, were outlawed tomorrow, what changes would we see in the next five years in terms of public health?
Dr. Blaylock: I think you'd see a significant drop in obesity and metabolic syndrome. You'd see a tremendous drop in certain cancers. You would certainly see a tremendous drop in the neurodegenerative diseases, and all of these diseases that are increasing expeditiously.
The neurodegenerative diseases are just exploding. Things that used to be rare, we're seeing all the time now. |
| They fed animals aspartame throughout their lives and let them die a natural death. They found a dramatic and statistically significant increase in the related cancers of lymphoma and leukemia, along with several histological types of lymphomas, which is of interest because H.J. Roberts had written an article saying that there was a significant increase in the primary lymphoma of the brain.
When you look it up in the neurosurgical literature, there is a rather significant rise in the incidents of what used to be a rare tumor. |
| You have a million patients in this country with arrhythmias that are life-threatening, and no one's telling them to avoid MSG and aspartame, yet it's a major source of cardiac irritability.
Mike: It's absolutely astounding. Now, didn't baby food manufacturers voluntarily remove this ingredient in the '70s?
Dr. Blaylock: They said they would, but they didn't. What they did is take out pure MSG and substitute it with hydrolyzed protein and caseinate. If you look at most toddler foods, they all have caseinate hydrolyzed protein broth, a significant source of glutamate. |
| You're talking about tens of millions of people, and they are out there gobbling up aspartame, MSG and other excitotoxins, and no one is telling them they are making their neurological conditions infinitely worse. I don't know how many seizure patients I've gotten off their medicines by just getting them off MSG and giving them magnesium. They quit having seizures. They were on maximum dosages of medications and still having seizures. Most neurologists and neurosurgeons that treat seizures are not aware of this.
Mike: It's not profitable to teach people how to avoid these ingredients.
Dr. |
| Blaylock: You need to abstain from all of these things. aspartame is not a necessary nutrient, and neither is MSG. The weight of the evidence is overwhelming. If you want to avoid obesity, metabolic syndrome and cancer, and if you don't want to make your cancer more aggressive, then you need to stay away from these products.
The damage affects pregnant women, unborn babies and newborns. It produces changes in the brain that are irreversible. What we've found is that it reprograms the wiring of the brain, particularly the hypothalamus, so it doesn't function normally. |

Phenylalanine concentrates in the placenta of "aspartame babies" for birth defects and mental retardation, attention deficit disorder and autism; and breaks down into DKP for brain tumors in animals (brain tumors have high aspartame). aspartame causes Oxygen deprivation; in an airplane at high altitude aspartame may cause dizziness, vertigo, memory loss, lost vision, epileptic fits, several pilots suffered convulsions after drinking Equal in coffee. Market competition brought us another chemical, aspartame, with more pretty packets to choose from with Equal® and NutraSweet®. It wasn't long before stories about tumors related to aspartame started popping up. Jokes abounded about which sweetener you used — the one that causes cancer or tumors? Not long afterwards, marketing spin was created for a new chemical "derivative of sugar" called sucralose, branded as Splenda®. Did you fall for this one like I did? |

Actually, the part about aspartame and food additives is, indeed, a joke with really bad taste, but since aspartame degrades into trace amounts of formaldehyde, a common biological preservative, it was begging to be mentioned here...)
Anyway, this exhibit is fascinating if you have any interest whatsoever in human anatomy. But at the same time, it's also a bit creepy. Personally, I couldn't stand the smell. |

The chemical sweetener aspartame, when exposed to warm temperatures for only a few hours, begins to break down into chemicals like formaldehyde and formic acid. Formaldehyde is a potent nerve toxin and causes damage to the eyes, brain and entire nervous system. aspartame has been strongly linked to migraines, seizures, blurred vision and many other nervous system problems. See articles on aspartame.

This is partly because aspartame can chemically break down into trace amounts of formaldehyde, and formaldehyde is an extremely toxic nerve poison. Drinking aspartame is sort of like poisoning your brain with chemical preservatives. That's great if you're trying to embalm yourself, but not so good if you actually plan to use your brain for anything useful.
Things that enhance the power of your intention

Now, decades after its introduction into foods as a non-caloric sweetener, researchers in at the Cesare Maltoni Cancer Research Center in Bologna, Italy, report that aspartame (Nutrasweet) provokes tumors in animals at doses less than what is considered acceptable for daily human intake. The daily intake level is 50 mg per kilogram (2.2 lbs) of body weight in the U.S. and 40 mg in Europe. This would be about 3,500 mg in the United States or 2,800 mg in Europe for a 160-pound adult. The Italian researcher found aspartame increased cancer risk at 20 mg per pound of body weight. |

Incidentally, many people have experienced an isolated episode of food-related IBS after eating several hand-fuls of sugar-free candy quickly. aspartame, the chemical with the brand name NutraSweet that is found in many candies and sodas, is non-nutritional and is not absorbed into your body. But the bacteria in your gut will attempt to treat aspartame the same way they treat lactose, and the sudden introduction of large amounts of the artificial sweetener into your system will produce huge amounts of methane gas. |
